EMDR
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps the brain heal from trauma by using back-and-forth movements (like eye movements or tapping) while the person recalls a painful memory. This activates both sides of the brain, similar to what happens during REM sleep, and allows the brain to reprocess the memory in a healthier way. It helps calm the brain’s alarm system (the amygdala), organize the memory properly (hippocampus), and engage clear thinking (prefrontal cortex). As a result, the memory becomes less distressing, and people can think about it without feeling overwhelmed.
