EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy for healing trauma and emotional distress. EMDR helps the brain reprocess painful or overwhelming memories using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or gentle tapping.
During an EMDR session, you recall a traumatic memory while engaging in these left-right movements. This process activates both sides of the brain—similar to what happens during REM sleep—and helps the brain reorganize and "re-store" the memory in a healthier way.
Here’s how it works:
The brain’s alarm system (amygdala) calms down
The hippocampus helps make sense of the memory
The prefrontal cortex supports rational, balanced thinking
As a result, the memory becomes less triggering, and you can think about it without feeling overwhelmed. Many people find EMDR therapy helps reduce symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and emotional reactivity, creating space for healing and lasting change.
